Louisiana Foreign LLC Registration Guide
To register your LLC in Louisiana yourself, you’ll have to submit paperwork to the Louisiana Secretary of State—but you’ll also need to make sure all your ducks are in a row before you start filling out your papers. Here are 3 key steps you’ll need to take:
1. Obtain a Certificate of Good Standing
You can get a certificate of good standing from the same office you submitted your LLC’s formation documents to in your home state. (In most cases, this is the secretary of state’s office.) The cost of a certificate of good standing is different in each state, but it usually ranges somewhere between $0 to $50.
What is a certificate of good standing?
A certificate of good standing is a document authorized by a state official that shows your company is fit to do business. This means your state taxes, fees, and filings are all settled.
What if my home state doesn’t issue a certificate of good standing?
If you can’t find an option to order a certificate of good standing in your home state, it may be that you state calls this document something else. Some common alternative names include:
- certificate of existence
- certificate of authorization
- certificate of status
Whatever name your state uses, you will be able to get authorized documentation of your LLC’s business status in your home state.
2. Get a Louisiana Registered Agent
